About our Summer Camps
At Orangutan Summer Camps, we believe in Fun and Games for Stronger Brains.
Our summer camps are designed for summer fun, educational activities and plenty of sunshine. Campers will enjoy time together indoors at our new location near Green Lake Park. The park gives us easy access to adventures outdoors!
All Orangutan Summer Camps include indoor and outdoor activities throughout the week depending on the weather. Possible activities include board games, picnics, hikes, exploring the parks, scavenger hunts, frisbee games, kickball, basketball, walking tours, playground time, books and playtime, and more.
Educational lessons are taught via demonstrations, hands-on learning, PowerPoint presentations, short videos, and other activities.
Camp Pricing & Hours
Full Day • 9am-3pm: $500.00
Plus Extended Care* • 9-5pm (adds $150.00): $650.00
*No single-day extended care pricing option available.
Scholarships Available: We offer scholarship assistance to our community, up to two scholarships per camp. Scholarships are provided based on need, and you only need ask. Please contact us directly to request assistance.
Sibling Bonus: To thank you for registering more than one child in a camp session, we are happy to buy lunch (pizza, drinks, more) for all siblings at our end-of-week picnic celebration! Learn more!

*On Fridays, we take students to the Green Lake PCC, so families have the option to provide $20 (instead of lunches) for PCC pizza, soups, sandwiches, and/or drinks for their children.

What we provide
We will provide sliced fruit and water to students. Students will be able to refill their water bottles using our water dispenser.
Note: Families must permit Camp Counselors to apply insect repellant and sunscreen to students via the Summer Camp Medical/Liability Waiver/Photo Release Form.

11:00 – 11:59 am: Lunch and Relax
12:00 – 12:10 pm: Prepare to go outside
12:10 – 1:30 pm: Outdoor Activity Time 1
1:30 – 1:40 pm: Snacks and Drinks
1:40 – 2:40 pm: Outdoor Activity Time 2
2:40 – 3:00 pm: Wind-down Indoor Activity and Parent Pick-Up
3:00 – 5:00 pm: Optional Indoor Extended Care
If the weather is hot in the afternoon, then we go outside in the morning.
Health & Safety
Sick Camper Policy: We kindly ask that for any child that has a fever, parents consider keeping the child home for that day of camp. If during camp, a child has a fever of 100 degrees or more, is noticeably not feeling well, or has vomited during camp we will contact the parents/caregiver right away to pick them up. We request any student with the symptoms above stay home for 24 hours to avoid transmitting anything contagious to other students. We will contact all families in that group to inform them that a group member went home.
Medication: Camp staff are not permitted to administer medications to students, so students must self-administer any medications. Camp staff will supervise participants capable of administering their own. In case of a life-threatening situation where the participant is unable to administer medication, such as an epi-pen or asthma inhalers, staff will assist.
Outside Time: Weather permitting, our students go outdoors for physical activity at Orangutan Summer Camps.
Sunscreen: Please apply sunscreen before coming to camp (even on cloudy days). If a camper brings sunscreen to camp, it must be listed in medications in your camper’s Summer Camp Medical/Liability Waiver/Photo Release Form. Sunscreen must be labeled with your camper’s name.
Insect Repellent: If you are concerned that your child will not be able to apply insect repellent themselves, please apply it prior to camp. If you would like to send your child to camp with their own repellent, please add it as a Medication on Summer Camp Medical/Liability Waiver/Photo Release Form and ensure they are able to dispense and apply themselves. Insect repellent must be labeled with your camper’s name.
Peanut & Tree-nut Free: We make every effort to maintain peanut and tree-nut free facilities at Orangutan Summer Camps and ask that parents pack lunches that are peanut and tree-nut free, as well as being free of chocolates and candy. We also ask parents help in keeping a safe environment for our children by not bringing snacks with nuts or nut oils into Orangutan Summer Camps.
Photo Release Policy: All guardians must accept or decline the Photo Release in the Summer Camp Medical/Liability Waiver/Photo Release Form before coming to camp. This authorization allows us to capture photos or videos of our campers while engaging in the program.
Summer Camp Terms & Conditions

Cancellation Policy: Full refund minus $50 processing fee if registration is canceled on or before June 10, 2024. Fifty percent (50%) refund if registration is canceled after June 10 until two weeks before the camp start date. No refunds/changes within two weeks of the camp start date. There will be a $20 fee charged to transfer student to a different week.
Code of Conduct: Students are expected to maintain the same behavioral standards they would in a school day (e.g., no running in class, no rough-housing, have respect for camp space, instructors, volunteers, other students, etc.). Parents/guardians should review behavior and participation expectations with their students before the first day of camp. If a child is consistently disruptive and prevents the instructor from conducting class, we reserve the right to drop the child from the camp, without refund (Parents/guardians will be given a warning before such measures are taken). Students can be removed without notice for kicking, hitting, punching, spitting or any misbehavior after a warning has been given.
Start time: Camp begins at 9 am and parents may drop-off as early as 8:45 am.
Pick Up: Camp ends at 3:00 pm unless you requested extended care options to 5:00 pm. It is the parent/guardian's responsibility to pick up their child in a timely manner. We understand that sometimes parent’s schedules change and/or there are traffic issues in Seattle. Please let us know as early as possible if you are running late for pick up. The first tardy (up to 30 minutes) is free, but we charge $2 per minute afterwards. On a typical pickup day, we give 5 minutes of grace time and then charge $20 for the next 15 minutes. Afterwards, we charge $2 per minute for late pickup payable to Orangutan Summer Camps at the time of pick up (Cash/Venmo/Credit Card)
Early Pick Up Requests: Please notify us at least one day in advance if you plan an early pick-up for your child. We will coordinate a pickup location with you.
You give permission for photos/videos of your child(ren) to be used by Ray’s Great Northwest, LLC DBA Orangutan Chess Academy (herein referred to as Orangutan Summer Camps) on its local & corporate websites and class newsletters. Names will not appear in the photos/videos.
Our student to teacher ratio is capped at 10:1.
Registrations, Payments & Refunds
Register for camp: Register and pay for camp on our website. Please add one session per participant to your cart. You may continue shopping and add more than one session to your cart before checking out. You may select from Regular Hours (9am-3pm) or Extended Hours (9am-5pm) at checkout.
Waitlists: If a session is full, you may contact us and request being added to the waitlist for that session. Openings occur when someone transfers or cancels their registration. If an opening occurs, we contact individuals in order of contact.
Payment: Payment-in-full for Summer Camp will be required in order to confirm your spot. Once you complete the checkout process, you will receive a confirmation email, plus an email with a required Summer Camp Medical/Liability Waiver/Photo Release Form for you to fill out. In order to confirm your spot, you must also submit the rform back to us before your first day of camp.
Tuition & Fees: Summer Camp registration includes a $50 non-refundable administration fee. You may cancel or modify your Summer Camp registration, and receive a full refund, minus the $50 administration fee, until 14 days before your first camp date. After that date there will be no refunds or registration changes.
Cancellations & Changes: Cancellations must be made to us in writing, via email or our contact page. Cancellation of a camp reservation prior to 14 days before the first day of your camp will be refunded, less the $50.00 non-refundable fee. Cancellations within 14 days of the first day of your camp reservation will not be refunded. To change a reservation from one camp to another, you must first cancel your registration and purchase the replacement. Please contact us directly to request a cancellation.
