All About Quads
Quads are mini chess tournaments. Quad means "four" with four players of similar rating matched against each other. There are three rounds total. Unrated players are paired with lowest rated players.
Quads ease new players into tournament experience! Three advantages of quads are: 1) Level competition for all players, 2) Very quick tournaments, and 3) Earn official chess ratings in the NW Scholastic Rated System (NWSRS). Each quad lasts 1 - 2.5 hours total rather than the usual 7 - 8 hours total for a five-round tournament!
Orangutan quads run most weeks during the school year (September - June). Orangutan quads have a maximum capacity of 24 students. Quad winners receive awards, including free admission to future quads or medals! 🏆🎉
